Boone is on a list of the safest cities in North Carolina.

The National Council for Home Safety and Security has released is list of the safest cities in the state and Boone comes in at number 16. Pinehurst, Elon, Holly Springs, Cary and Davidson make up the top five. Lenoir made number 39 on the list and Hickory number 43. Asheville came in at 47th and Hendersonville at 52nd. Those were the only other mountain towns to make the list.

The most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics were used along with the Council's population data and internal research. Cities that did not submit a complete crime report to the FBI and cities with populations under 10,000 were excluded.

The cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes and property crimes per 1000 people, with violent crimes weighted higher than property crimes.
