After Monday’s cancellation of Watauga County Schools, the system has announced that Watauga Schools will be open this Saturday as a makeup date.

On Saturday, February 10th, Watauga Schools and itinerant teachers will follow a MONDAY schedule and will also follow an early release schedule.  K-8 schools will dismiss at noon and WHS will dismiss at 1P.  Lunch will be served and the buses will run their usually routes.  The After School Program will not operate on Saturday.

Watauga has attempted to have Saturday school in the recent past but weather impacted that decision.

As of Monday, Watauga has now missed 13 days of school and last week, Superintendent Dr. Scott Elliot said that while the school system is trying to protect the spring break as much as possible, altering the spring break schedule is a possibility.

Elliott said Watauga County Schools places holidays and annual leave days into the week of spring break which can be used to make up student days if necessary.

If spring break days have to be used, Elliott said makeup days would be taken from the end of the week first, and would move backward toward Easter if additional days were needed.

Currently, spring break dates are set for April 2nd through 4th, with annual leave days scheduled for April 5th and 6th.

Elliot said the school system will let everyone know as soon as possible if the spring break schedule has to be changed so families will have as much time as possible to adjust their plans.
