Newland Police and Avery Sheriff Office have made several arrests on drug charges.

Newland Police had been receiving information about drug activity at two residences and was finally able to develop enough probable cause to obtain search warrants, which were executed on January 25th.

Arrested and charged at one residence were Natasha Sells , age 32, and Greg Sells, age 36. Both were charged with Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Methamphetamine, Maintaining a Dwelling for the use of Drugs, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Arrested and charged at the other residence were Kisha Cook, age 32, and Travis Benfield, age 39. Both were charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Maintaining a Dwelling for the use of Drugs and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 

In a statement, Newland Police Chief Byron Clawson said although there was not a large amount of drugs found at these houses, the department is not going to accept people using homes in Newland for the sale and use of dangerous drugs. 

The Newland Police Department encourages all citizens to report any suspicious activity to the Newland Police so more work can be done to make the Town of Newland the best place to live in North Carolina.
