Appalachian State athletics has announced that men’s tennis coach Bob Lake has been suspended from the team’s next four tennis matches.

According to the Winston Salem Journal, Coach Lake's suspension follows the University's indefinite suspension of freshman Spencer Brown on Monday morning after it conducted an investigation of events during last Sunday's tennis match.

The suspension of Brown came after the university determined that Brown displayed “derogatory and offensive” behavior during his match against North Carolina A&T’s John Wilson IV on Sunday.

According to the report, Athletic Director Doug Gillin said App State’s investigation would continue to determine the roles others played in the situation, as well as what led up to the exchange between the players.

The report indicates Chancellor Sheri Everts has requested an independent assessment regarding the diversity and inclusion practices in the athletics program.

Bob Lake has been the head coach for men's tennis at Appalachian State University since 2000.
