The Avery County Sheriff's Department arrested two people on methamphetamine charges.

Last Friday January 26th, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on US19E near the Mullin Hill intersection.

According to a statement from the Avery County Sheriff's Department, deputies became suspicious and a K9 officer was called. The K9 alerted deputies to the presence of a controlled substance and after a search of the vehicle; deputies discovered approximately 100 grams of meth and a stolen firearm.

Deputies arrested Lonnie Henderson, age 44 of Hendersonville and Crystal Mathis, age 31 of East Flat Rock, and charged both with trafficking in methamphetamine. Henderson was also charged with possession of a stolen firearm.
