An inmate at the Watauga County Detention Center has died.

The Watauga Democrat reports 40-year-old Lincoln Cord Horner of Ferguson was found in his cell on the afternoon of January 12th with a medical issue related to self harm.

Watauga Sheriff Len Hagaman said detention center staff responded quickly and performed medical protocol, and Horner was transported to Watauga Medical Center, where he died three days later.

According to the report, Horner entered the detention center January 3rd after being arrested on a number of charges including, conspiracy to commit felony larceny and four counts of misdemeanor larceny.

The report indicates the SBI and jail inspectors will do a routine investigation of the incident, investigating when rounds were made, how staff reacted and what was done to intervene medically.
