Officials are working on a missing person case involving a Burke County man, and a Fleetwood man may be responsible.

WSOC TV reports Burke County officials said Carlton Lamaar Edmondson of Valdese was reported missing by his family January 19th and his family said they had received phone calls from an unknown person saying their son had been kidnapped and demanding money for his return.

A joint investigation by the Burke Sheriff’s Office and the SBI led to Boone and then Johnson County, Tennessee where they arrested Robert Leroy Littleton III, who was charged with first-degree felony kidnapping.

Burke officials say extradition has not been set and additional arrests and charges are pending.

The Watauga Democrat reports Littleton's address as 949 Railroad Grade Road, Fleetwood.

Investigators say Edmondson had been taken to a remote location in Tennessee, assaulted, and left.

WSOC TV reports authorities said there is cellphone video of Edmondson getting beat up.

Edmondson is 5’09”, approximately 250 lbs, with black hair, and brown eyes.  Anyone who may have information about his whereabouts should contact the Burke County Sheriff’s Office at (828) 438-5500 or Morganton/Burke Crimestoppers at (828) 437-3333.

According to the Watauga Democrat, Littleton was arrested multiple times previously by both the Boone Police Department and the Watauga County Sheriff's Department.

UPDATE: WSOC TV reports a second person has been charged in the case. On Tuesday, Littleton's wife, Leigh Katherine Littleton, was charged with first-degree kidnapping.
