A fire at a gun shop in Hampton Tennessee partially destroyed the facility Friday afternoon.

According to WJHL TV, the fire burned through the roof of the firing range section of Barnett’s Guns and Firing Range in Hampton Tennessee, and the roof collapsed. According to the report, the fire burned for nearly three hours before it was contained.

The Johnson City Press reports Deputy Chief James Parrish of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department said there were more than 100 firefighters on scene during the peak of the blaze. Hampton Fire Chief Johnny Isaacs said fire departments and firefighters responding to the call included crews from Carter, Washington, Johnson and Sullivan counties in Tennessee and Avery County in North Carolina.

According to the Johnson City Press, the incident began when a shooter reported that he had inadvertently fired a tracer round into the rubberized backstop. That rubber provided the fuel for the fire.

The Barnett’s Gun Shop website indicates the store will be closed until further notice.
