A Boone woman has been arrested for obtaining prescription medicine by false pretense.

The Watauga Democrat reports Katherine Campbell Godsey, 39, of 294 Natures Way, Boone, was arrested January 10th on charges of obtaining property by false pretense by fraudulently representing herself as someone that needed medical treatment in order to receive prescription narcotics.

The Watauga Sheriff's department also charged Godsey with trafficking opium or heroin.

The report indicated Godsey was the activities director at Deerfield Ridge Assisted Living and was arrested there.

According to the report, on June 2nd 2017, Godsey obtained 10 milligrams of Oxycodone from Boone Drug Pharmacy, and was found to possess and transport four to 14 grams of opiates.

Godsey was issued a $100,000 secured bond and a court date of February 27th.

According to the report, Deerfield Ridge Executive Director Melissa Deskins said the facility recently completed a thorough internal audit of all medications and safeguards to make sure residents' medications are handled appropriately.
