Officials responded to a fire in the Beaver Dam community and found one person dead.

The Watauga Democrat reports Captain Dee Dee Rominger of the Watauga County Sheriff's Department responded to 3275 Beaver Dam Road around 7pm Monday night, and found a fire as well as a person who was reported dead.

According to the report, Rominger said the death was not fire related. The identity of the victim has not been released and Rominger couldn't confirm if foul play was suspected. The cause of death is still under investigation.

Beaver Dam, Cove Creek, and Zionville fire departments responded to the scene, as well as Watauga Fire Marshall Taylor Marsh who said the fire had extinguished itself.

According to the report, there was substantial smoke damage to the home, estimated at around $5000 dollars.

The cause of the fire is also under investigation.
