West Jefferson is in for a special treat this evening. The Ashe County Arts Council once again welcomes the North Carolina National Guard’s 440th Army Band.

There’s no reason not to come, according to the Council’s program director, Rebecca Herman.

It's a tradition, she says- and a great way to support our troops.

It’s no coincidence that the band’s in town just before July 4th.

While the band travels throughout the state, Ashe County always tries to book them as part of in honor of Independence Day.

Along with the expected military marches and patriotic music, Herman says contemporary music is part of the show.

Doors open at the Ashe Civic Center at 6:45, but the band will start at 7:30.
