Black's sentence delayed PDF Print
Written by Lauren Ohnesorge

Sentencing for former House Speaker Jim Black has been delayed after Black's attorney said the judge should step down. In an order filed Friday in Raleigh, Judge James Dever III cited the motion by Black's lawyer and the court's busy calendar in canceling the May 18 sentencing date. The sentencing has not been rescheduled. Black pleaded guilty in February to one count of accepting things of value in connection with the business of state government. He could face up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
