Linville Gorge Wildfire Update PDF Print
Written by Lauren Ohnesorge

A fire near Linville Gorge continues to thwart firefighters today.

According to assistant information officer Dyan Bone, firefighters are burning acres of brush and other potential fuel in attempts to stop the fire's spread. While thirty percent of the fire has been contained, windy conditions and rugged terrain continue to challenge firefighters on scene. Firefighters from New Mexico and Arizona have been called in to battle the flames while many Burke firefighters deal with a fire in Georgia. The fire at the Gorge started near Pinnacle trail on April 25, probably from a campfire. The U.S. Forest Service has closed all trails in the Linville Gorge Wilderness, as well as Old N.C. Highway 105.
