It was back in January that a lottery ticket was sold in Boone with over a half million won on that ticket. But months went by with no word of anyone cashing in on the Carolina Cash 5 ticket. But now, Stephen Clopton of Boone has stepped forward to claim his winnings, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery. His Quick Pick ticket matched all five numbers in the Jan. 13 drawing, winning the $581,760 jackpot won on a ticket he purchased at the Wilco-Hess on NC 105 in Boone. After state and federal taxes were withheld, Clopton received a check for $402,578.
