After a quiet Memorial Day weekend as far as accidents on High Country Roads, Memorial Day itself proved to be a bit busier. First, a crash was reported into the New River in Ashe County, a vehicle discovered on its top in the water, the driver found walking a distance away from the crash. The upside-down vehicle was found around 6am in the predawn light, crashed into the river near the Riverview Community Center off NC 88.  Then the woman, identified as the driver, found walking nearby, and the state patrol was called in to investigate.  The woman refused transport by medics at the crash scene.
Then just before 7:30, another vehicle landed on its side in an accident on Poplar Grove Road near Kalmia Lane in Boone.  First arriving firefighters and officers found the only injured person suffering some head cuts and other slight injuries while finding the vehicle on its side.
