Two Avery residents have been charged with drug counts over the past week. On May 5th officers of Avery County Sheriff’s Office served civil papers on Dobbins Road near Banner Elk.  There, officers encountered Roger William Harmon, who was found to be in possession of two pipes commonly used to smoke marijuana and a small bag of containing methamphetamine.  Harmon also had outstanding warrants for his arrest for criminal damage to property and misdemeanor child abuse.  Roger Harmon was arrested and a bond set at 3000.00
On May 8th,  officers of the Avery County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop near the Old Heaton Store.  The driver of the vehicle was 19 year old Eli Johnson of Minneapolis.  Detective Casey Lee and his new K-9 partner “Kilo” responded to the scene.  Kilo alerted on the vehicle driven by Johnson indicating the presence of drugs in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle located a small bag of methamphetamine and other paraphernalia.  Eli Johnson was charged with possession of methamphetamine, according to the Avery Sheriff’s Office.
