Three injuries were reported as a sedan and a pickup truck collided on NC 105 just south of Boone. The collision occurred just before 8am right at the entrance to Flintlock Campground as traffic was slowing for a turning vehicle, and a Dodge Stratus sedan struck the rear of a Toyota pickup. Trooper Townsend identified the parties involved as Jody Atkins, 40, of Grandfather Road, driver of the Dodge, indicating she was slightly injured, and her baby, seated in the rear, taken to Watauga Medical Center by Watauga Medics mainly to be checked. The truck driver was Matthew Dewhirst of Boone, who later drove himself to the hospital, according to trooper Townsend. Boone Firemen responded to the scene as the wreck tied up south-bound traffic, backing it up to near the Boone Town limits before emergency crews on the scene began to divert traffic into one of the two north-bound lanes. None of the injuries appeared life threatening, and Trooper Townsend cited Jody Atkins for Failure to Reduce Speed.
