In Wilkes, there will be fewer jobs by the end of the year, that with La-Z-Boy Inc. announcing the closure of two North Wilkesboro plants. The move will mean the loss of jobs for 100 employees, and more disturbing for those who want to buy US products, the closure is part of the company's transition to solely import its wood furniture, according to the Triad Business Journal. The Monroe, Mich.-based company also said it plans to put its youth furniture business up for sale and stop production of furniture for hotels. Then, next year, La-Z-Boy will discontinue casegoods production at their Hudson, plant during the second quarter, but warehouse and repair functions that took place in North Wilkesboro will shift to Hudson.
By the end of this year, the company's two North Wilkesboro facilities, which combined are 520,000 square feet, will be marketed for sale along with wood-working equipment from the Hudson plant.
