Town Council adopts Zoning Amendment PDF Print

The Boone Town Council adopted a measure Thursday night that would prohibit medical facilities in excess of 10,000 square feet from being developed in single-family neighborhoods.

As the ordinance previously stood, medical facilities exceeding 10,000 square feet were allowed in single-family residential districts, while those less than 10,000 square feet were not. In addition, the council also approved a zoning text amendment that would prohibit the use of colleges, universities and community colleges in the town’s business districts. Though this particular amendment was met with opposition by councilmen Dempsey Wilcox and Rennie Brantz, it passed in a 3-2 vote with the condition that planning staff investigate means for such educational entities to be allowed to lease property in business districts, thus maintaining the property’s status on the tax rolls.
