Wilkesboro Store Suffers Damage in Runaway Vehicle Incident PDF Print

Shoppers had a close call with a runaway vehicle at a shopping center in Wilkesboro on Christmas Eve. According to the Wilkesboro Police Department,

the incident occurred just after 10:30 Monday morning when a vehicle plowed into the front of the Rue 21 building just off of Highway 421 in Wilkesboro. According to the Police Department, Roger Albert Rigby, 68, was backing out of a parking space in front of the store when the vehicle accelerated, backing into the building.


The incident caused over $5,000 in damages to the building, owned by Horne Properties. No one was injured in the incident. Rigby was charged with Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid Colliding with a Building.
