Quick Response Saves Newland Home

Fire last night damaged a Newland home, but a fast response from a number of Avery Fire departments minimized the loss. The call came in around 7:45 last night to a Watauga Street home near the elementary school, first arriving firemen finding fire in the attic and upper areas of the house. Full Story

UPDATED: KOSTIS ADVANCES TO STATE FINALS

Demetre Kostis had a pretty productive day on Friday at the Class 4A State Wrestling Championships in Greensboro, N.C. The Watauga High advanced to the state finals by knocking off Kollin Wade (43-4) of Cary 5-4 in the 132 pound weight class in the state semifinals.

UPDATE: Injury, Pin-in Reported in Ashe Crash

A West Jefferson area man was pinned in his overturned vehicle in western Ashe County early this morning, the vehicle found upside down and against an embankment on West Buffalo Road at about 6:45am.
