Courbot, Rentsch combined to break five individual school records to lead Women’s Swimming at Union Invitational

RESULTS
 
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Fanny Courbot and Guillermina Rentsch combined to break five individual school records, while also swimming a leg of the record-breaking 400-free, 200-medley, and 400-medley relay teams, to lead the Lees-McRae women's swimming team to a second-place finish at the Union College Fall Swimming Invitational this past weekend.
 
THE BASICS

MEN'S NOTABLES:

  • Courbot won both the 100 and 200 breast with record-breaking times of 1:04.11 and 2:20.90 respectively, while also teaming up with Rentsch, Anastasia Johnson, and Tate Abbott to win both the 200-medley (1:47.80) and 400-medley (3:53.33) relays. Both times in the relays broke the previous school records.
  • Abbott was a triple winner in the invitational, winning the 50 free (24.00), 100 free (52.42), and 200 free (1:54.13).
  • Johnson touched second in the 100 fly (59.86), while Rentsch broke the school records by finishing second in both the 200 back (2:06.98) and the 100 back (1:00.06).
  • The 800-free relay team of Lucia RuchtiTaylor SimmonsHannah Gunsallus, and Abbott posted a second-place finish, while the team of Rentsch, Ruchti, Kayla Fleming, and Abbott touched second in the 400-free relay. The 800-free relay team broke the school record in the event.
  • Simmons and Courbot also finished second in the 1650 free (18:23.06) and in the 200 IM (2:10.85).
  • Johnson touched third in the 200 fly (2:17.36) and the 200 IM (2:14.19), while Fleming broke the school in the 400 IM with a time of 4:48.17.
  • Rentsch, Simmons, and Gunsallsu touched third (5:15.34), fourth (5:15.63), and fifth (5:22.28) in the 500 free respectively.
  • Fleming, Johnson, Simmons, and Ruchti raced to a third-place finish in the 200-free relay (1:39.58).
  • Gunsallus finished fourth in the 1650 free (18:32.86), while Ruchti and Kandace Kennedy touched fifth in the 100 back (1:01.35) and in the 200 back (2:15.59).

 
FROM THE COACHES:

  • "We approached this meet, with a little rest, to see what we could do and then look to make improvements going into the second semester. We had a tremendous meet and everyone had season-best swims in one or two more events. I can't say enough about how the team performed throughout the entire weekend. We now are ready to enjoy some home time and then final exams."

 
UP NEXT
The Bobcats will return to the pool on Friday, Jan. 14 as they travel to Emory, Virginia to compete in a dual meet against Emory & Henry at 3 p.m.

Men’s Swimming breaks five school records, finishes second at Union College Fall Invitational

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Chase DavisThomas Ware, and the 200-medley relay team of Davis, Carson CrossCooper Gobble, and Caleb Eidson all broke school records, while Davis and J.D. McCray won their individual events, to lead the Lees-McRae men's swimming team to a second-place finish at the Union College Swimming Invitational over the weekend.
 
THE BASICS

MEN'S NOTABLES:

  • Davis won the 200 back and broke the school record with a time of 1:52.81, while also breaking the school record in the 100 back with his third-place finish (53.06).
  • McCray touched first in the 400 IM (4:14.02), while joining Gobble, Davis, and Eidson to finish second in the 400-free relay (3:10.24).
  • Eidson was also second in 50 free (21.47) and swam a leg of the 200-medley relay team that touched second.
  • McCray, in the 200 back, and the 200-free relay team of Cross, Gobble, Cooper Hoagland, and Ware both finished third.
  • Both the 400-medley relay (Davis, Cross, Gobble, Eidson) and the 800-free relay (Davis, McCray, Ware, Eidson) touched fourth with a time of 3:32.64 and 7:04.72 respectively.
  • Ware finished fourth and broke the school record in both the 1,000 free (10:06.87) and in the 1,650 free (16:45.84) respectively.
  • Eidson, Cross, and Thomas Savage all touched fifth in the 100 free (47.15), 200 breast (2:11.11), and 200 fly (2:01.22).
  • Nathan Higdon and McCray finished fifth in the 500 free (4:43.08) and the 400 IM (4:17.05) respectively.
