BOONE -= According to 247Sports.com, three former Appalachian State University football players will take their skills to the professional level this spring in the newly developed eight-team Alliance of American Football. The season begins February 9-10.

Linebacker Kennan Gilchrist will play for the San Antonio Commanders. Gilchrist, who spent two seasons with the Houston Texans of the National Football League, made 253 tackles and 24.5 tackles-for-loss during this stay with the Mountaineers. He was a second-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection.

Wide receiver Malachi Jones will play for his hometown team, the Atlanta Legends. Jones, who is coming off two very strong arena league seasons, was added to the Chicago Bears roster last September. He had 1,711 receiving yards during his stay at App State with eight touchdown receptions. He racked up more than 2,100 yards and 52 TDs the last two years playing with the High Country Grizzlies and the Albany Empire in arena football.

And offensive tackle Beau Nunn will play for the San Diego Fleet. Nunn was a two-time All-SBC performer. He was with the Detroit Lions in training camp last summer before he time was cut short by injury.
