Watauga Dominates Ashe County, Ends
Conference Schedule Unbeaten
The Watauga Pioneers ended the regular season
on a high note, taking down long-time
conference rival Ashe County 56-28 in West
Jefferson on Friday night. The Pioneers improve
to 9-1 overall and 5-0 in Division 4A play.
Watauga ends their fourth-straight season with
an undefeated conference record. The Huskies drop
to 3-7 overall, 1-4 in conference play.
Sophomore quarterback Maddox Greene completed
four of six passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns.
Greene also added a game-high 217 rushing yards, off
of 20 carries, and two scores
Senior running backs Will Curtis and Trey Thompson
tacked on 142 total rushing yards and three
touchdowns. The Pioneer offense had 409 total yards
rushing.
Wide receiver Jackson Pryor led the Pioneers with two
catches for 54 yards and one touchdown. Isaiah
Shirley also had a touchdown catch.
Senior Carlton Hornine led the Pioneers with
eight total tackles and an interception. Morgan
Henry and senior Isaiah Shirley combined for 10 tackles, three for loss. Shirley, the NC State
commit, had the only sack of the game. Maddox
Greene also had an interception.
Watauga returns to Jack Groce Stadium in the high
country for their first postseason game, against a to-
be-determined opponent, next Friday, November 4th.
