Memorial Day Travel - Morning Is Better

As the official kick off of summer, Memorial Day weekend always sees an increase in traffic as people travel during the three day holiday.

Triple-A says more than 42 million people will travel at least 50 miles, with 3.4 million of them flying somewhere for the weekend. The rest will be on the road ways and
Triple-A says WHEN you travel is important.

The best time to hit the road is in the morning hours Thursday and Friday, and the busiest time is during the 3 to 6 pm hours. Of course, that is the time most folks get off work and would begin their trip. Also, traffic is lighter on Saturday and Sunday.

As for the return on Monday, again the morning hours are best, with the busiest times on the road the mid-day hours. The Governor’s Highway Safety Program is urging North Carolinians to buckle up.

This year’s Memorial Day “Click It or Ticket” campaign runs now through June 4, and reminds you to buckle up – every seat, every time.

People who violate North Carolina’s seat belt law can face a fine of $180 or more.
