The Boone Town Council will meet June 15 and 17. The Council will be voting on a proposed budget.

The Watauga Democrat reports the budget includes a three cent tax rate increase, bringing the tax to .44 per $100 in property valuation.

According to the report, this would be the first increase since 2014.

The new tax rate increase would fund priorities outlined in February's budget workshop, including hiring two new police officer positions and the cost of two additional hybrid vehicles.

The proposed budget also includes funds for another employee in Planning and Inspections, replace downtown parking meters, new radios for the Boone Fire Department, and a onetime bonus for all town staff.

The public hearing on the proposed budget is during the June 15 meeting, with the vote on June 17.
