On Thursday, the Yancey County Health Department reported the second CoVID-19 associated death in the county.

The death occurred Wednesday October 21st. The individual was in their 70’s, and was hospitalized. To protect the family’s privacy no further information about the patient will be released.

Toe River Health District just released their weekly case report Wednesday, showing Yancey with 309 total cases, and 53 active. That report showed Avery with 272 total cases, 24 were active, with 13 active cases at the prison. Mitchell was at 246 total cases, with 12 active.

On October 15, Yancey Health Department had reported a cluster of 14 cases, and that number included a congregate living facility as well as several individuals. Mitchell County has reported 5 deaths; Avery has had 1 death, since the beginning of the pandemic.

AppHealthCare reported Thursday 119 active cases in Watauga, a total of 1708, with 236 actively monitored.
Ashe reported 41 active cases, a total of 436, and 69 actively monitored.
Alleghany had 19 active cases, a total of 275, with 27 being monitored.

As of Thursday October 22, App State had 59 students and 4 employees with active cases. There has been a total of 986 students with COVID-19, 44 employees and 41 subcontractors.
