During the public comment portion of the Blowing Rock Town Council meeting September 8, there were comments advocating for an ambulance station to be placed in town.

The Watauga Democrat reports Tim Gupton, president of the Blowing Rock Civic Association, and Ron Curtis, president of the Blowing Rock Country Club asked council to adopt a “One Voice” resolution for the expansion of emergency management services in the southern part of Watauga County.

According to the report, Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue Chief Kent Graham said that he and other town officials have received a meeting request from Watauga Medics owner Craig Sullivan. Watauga Medics is contracted to provide services to Watauga.

Ambulance service to Blowing Rock has been a point of discussion for many years between the town and the county.

The county conducted studies in 2017 and did not recommend that an ambulance crew be placed in Blowing Rock.
