The filing period for the 2020 elections begins in North Carolina today at 12 noon.

Filing continues through noon Friday December 20. Since 2020 is a presidential election year, the primaries will be Tuesday, March 3, two weeks earlier than the 2016 primaries, making North Carolina’s Republican and Democratic primaries part of “Super Tuesday” with a dozen other states primaries taking place on the same day.

A three-judge panel unanimously ruled in early November that the congressional maps were unconstitutional. The maps have since been redrawn and the same three judge panel was scheduled to consider the newest maps early today. If the court rejects the new maps, filing for US House candidates could be delayed.
