A single-vehicle wreck on U.S. 221 West Jefferson sent two people to Ashe Memorial Hospital Monday morning.

The Ashe Post and Times reports 18 year old Amanda Steele of Jefferson was driving south on U.S. 221 when her car veered off the road to the right, and hit a ditch which sent the car down an embankment.

The car then came to a stop, but the West Jefferson Fire Department had to use a chainsaw to clear the brush surrounding the car to rescue the driver and passenger.

Both Steele and the passenger, 20 year old Benjamin Madison of Laurel Springs were in stable condition before they were transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital.
