The Back 2 School Festival held this past Saturday, August 10th was the biggest event ever, according to Festival Director Kendra Sink.

High Country Press reports the festival supplies school supplies, shoes and other items to over 1,100 area children.

Sink said once the final count is confirmed that number could be higher.

According to the report, 110 free hair cuts and 17 gift cards were provided by the Boone Service League, lunch provided by area restaurants was served by the Boone Kiwanis Club to participants and volunteers, and lots of information passed out along with the supplies from the hundreds of volunteers who worked the event, all to help students prepare for the new school year.

The event raised more than $47,000 dollars this year.

The Back 2 School Festival began in 2013.
