The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country still plans to open by late summer or early fall.

The Watauga Democrat reports renovations are now about 60 percent complete.

According to the report, construction is already paid for, but the theatre still needs to raise money to help fund operations for the first three years and buy furniture, lighting and other equipment. The estimated start-up costs for the first three years is about $1.2 million.

There is potential for a $1 million grant from the state through Governor Roy Cooper’s newly proposed budget.
