The flood warning in Watauga County has been extended to 4:30 p.m.

There is also a high wind warning in effect until 11 a.m. tomorrow.

Boone Police Department reports the following roads have been closed:

Deerfield Road at the Moose Lodge, Bamboo Road at the airport, New River Hills, Aldridge Road, Dell Coffey Road, Roby Greene Road, Brookshire Road near N.C. 194, Guy Ford Road, Watauga River Road, Dewitt Barnett Road and Hubert Thomas Road.

Watauga County Emergency Management stated an emergency shelter will open at noon at Alliance Bible Fellowship in Boone.

Watauga County Schools dismissed K-8 schools at 10:30 a.m. and WHS at 11 a.m.

Ashe County Schools dismissed Elementary School at 10:30 a.m., Middle School at 11 a.m. and Ashe County High School at 11:30 a.m.

Avery County Schools remain open, but parents can pick up their kids if necessary. 

Due to weather conditions, the Watauga Campus of CCC&TI will close at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11. All classes and activities from 1 p.m. through the end of the day are cancelled. The Caldwell Campus in Hudson continues to operate on a normal schedule
