Ashe County Schools was granted $15 million dollars for its new middle school project.

The Ashe Post and Times reports it was announced on October 8th that Ashe County Schools would receive the grant from the Needs-Based Public School Capital Fund. Grants were awarded from the fund to several economically distressed areas in the state.

According to the report, with the grant, the new Ashe County Middle School will be able to carry out its full plan, which will include a full-sized gym, an auxiliary gym, extra storage and extra classrooms.

Ashe County commissioners and the board of education will meet this month to work on the final planning and details of the future middle school.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be $34.9 million.

Work on the middle school is scheduled to begin next spring.
