Hurricane Florence now has potential to bring five to 10 inches of rain to the High Country. Some isolated areas could get more.

The National Hurricane Center reports that rain will likely develop Saturday night, and extended periods of heavy rain are possible Sunday and Monday.

According to the report, catastrophic flash flooding and prolonged river flooding is still a concern. Strong winds are also a possibility early next week.

Appalachian State University has canceled classes through Sunday to allow students in severely impacted areas to prepare accordingly.

Watauga County Schools are closely monitoring the weather and will make decisions on cancellations as the path of the storm becomes clearer.
