A lawsuit against Sugar Mountain Resort has been settled.

The Avery Journal reports the suit was related to a 2016 incident when a minor jumped from a chairlift after it had stopped running.

The settlement for the benefit of the minor child was approved January 31st in US District Court in Asheville.

According to the report, the suit alleges the chairlift was prematurely stopped, stranding the minor on the lift about 30 feet in the air for approximately two hours before the minor chose to jump from the lift, sustaining injuries to a wrist and heel, then had to crawl to a lighted area. The minor was discovered and transported to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment.

The original lawsuit sought $75,000. The terms of the settlement were ordered to remain confidential.
