A Boone man was arrested last month on assault charges.

The Watauga Democrat reports Mark Thomas Coats, 27, of 209 Oak St., Boone, was arrested  January 25th and charged with  false imprisonment, interfering with emergency communication, communicating threats, assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a female and assault by strangulation.

According to the report, on January 23rd, Coats allegedly pushed a female numerous times, hit her in the face, charged towards her and knocked her off of a porch three feet off of the ground.

The report also alleges he held a knife to her throat twice and threatened to use it.

Coats reportedly detained the woman and prevented her from calling first responders by taking her cell phone.

Coats was given a $15,000 secured bond and a court date of March 2nd.
