Last Saturday’s Operation Medicine Cabinet yielded more than 76,000 pills and almost 600 ounces of liquid medications.

According to Watauga County Sheriff Len Hagaman, out of 76,201 pills, 1497 were Opioids, 574 were Benzodiazepines and 238 were stimulants.

Sheriff Hagaman reported that 591 oz. of liquids, and numerous sharps were also collected during the event.

Since Operation Medicine Cabinet began in the High Country in 2009, more than 1.5 million pills and 132 gallons of liquid medication have been collected and properly disposed of, keeping them off the street and out of the hands of children and out of the water supply.
