WAMY Community Action Now Accepting Applications for All Housing Programs
Watauga, Avery, Mitchell, and Yancey Counties – WAMY Community Action is excited to announce that applications are now open for all of its housing programs. These programs aim to assist low-income families in creating safer, more energy-efficient homes. By consolidating the application process, WAMY is making it easier than ever for families to access the support they need.
WAMY’s Housing Program offers a range of services, including the Urgent Repair Program (URP) and the Essential Single-Family Rehab (ESFR) program. These initiatives address critical home repair needs such as leaking roofs, plumbing and electrical hazards, and other safety concerns. Additionally, the Weatherization Program helps families reduce energy costs by sealing air leaks, insulating homes, and improving duct systems, saving households up to 35% on heating and cooling expenses.
“Our goal is to make the application process as seamless as possible for families in need,” said April Beck, Housing & Energy Director at WAMY Community Action. “By advertising all housing programs together, we can ensure that more families are aware of the resources available to them and can access the help they need to create safer, more comfortable homes.”
All services are income-based, and households must fall below 200% of the federal poverty level to qualify. WAMY’s programs are available to homeowners with site-built homes or mobile homes on permanent foundations. Renters may also qualify for weatherization services with landlord approval.
“Every family deserves a safe and energy-efficient home,” added Beck. “We’re here to help make that a reality for as many families as possible in our community.”
