Western Youth Network Plans May 21 Groundbreaking on New Youth Center, Marking Major Milestone in $11.5M “Building Brighter Futures” Campaign

Western Youth Network (WYN) is excited to announce the official groundbreaking of its new 18,280-square-foot youth center, a first-of-its-kind facility in the High Country designed to expand vital after-school and youth support services. This milestone comes as part of WYN’s $11.5 million Building Brighter Futures campaign, which is dedicated to creating safe spaces, enhancing youth programming, and strengthening mental health services for local children.

Community leaders, donors, and supporters will gather on May 21 at 6pm, 134 Doctors Drive to celebrate this significant step forward for youth development in the region. The public is invited to join in celebration of this momentous step towards creating brighter futures for our youth.

A Transformational Investment in High Country’s Youth

For 40 years, WYN has provided life-changing mentorship, academic support, and family resources. Now, with a growing need for services—particularly after-school care—this new facility will more than double WYN’s capacity and offer expanded programming tailored to local children and families.

“This groundbreaking is more than just the start of a construction project—it’s a symbol of hope and opportunity for the children of the High Country,” said Jennifer Warren, Executive Director of WYN. “This new space will allow us to serve more youth, create more meaningful experiences, and provide critical support that will shape lives for generations to come.”

Addressing a Growing Need

The Boone Area Chamber of Commerce’s recent childcare study revealed a critical shortage of after-school care, with over 1,672 additional spots needed across the High Country. WYN’s new youth center will directly help fill this gap by providing:

  • Dedicated after-school wings for elementary and middle school students

  • A teen center offering safe recreation and mentorship

  • A professional counseling center for mental health services

  • Multipurpose community spaces for parent education, family support, and enrichment programs

  • A kitchen for nutrition education and life-skills training

  • Creative spaces for art, music, and technology

Community Support Propelling the Campaign Forward

The Building Brighter Futures campaign has already raised $8 million toward its $11.5 million goal, thanks to the generosity of early donors, corporate partners, and local foundations. As construction begins, WYN is calling on the community to help push the campaign across the finish line.

“The success of this campaign has been a testament to the power of community,” said David Jackson, President of the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce. “This new youth center will have a lasting impact—not just on the children who walk through its doors, but on families, employers, and the entire region.”

With construction officially underway, WYN is inviting the community to be part of this exciting moment in its history. Ways to support include:
