Sheriff’s Office says no credible threat to Hardin Park School
A Watauga County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) investigation regarding a potential threat to Hardin Park School has led them to determine that there was no credible threat to the school.
Late Wednesday night the Sheriff's Office stated they received a report of the possible threat and the report was made after school hours on September 11, 2024. As a precautionary measure, an increased law enforcement presence on all campuses was put into effect for today to ensure a safe and secure environment.
On Thursday afternoon WCSO stated, “A conversation took place between students on a school bus yesterday afternoon. Some of the comments made were unclear, leading another student to perceive them as a potential threat to Hardin Park School. These concerns were then reported by students to their parents (as they should), who promptly contacted law enforcement.
Law enforcement immediately began their investigation and informed the school system. After conducting multiple interviews and examining all available evidence, we have determined that there was no credible threat to the school. However, we will continue to engage in discussions with the students involved to ensure understanding and clarity.
The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. We take any report of a potential threat very seriously and are committed to thoroughly investigating every situation to ensure the well-being of our school community.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work together to maintain a safe and positive environment for everyone.”
