The Ashe County Arts Council has canceled two summer events.

The Ashe Post and Times reports the 2020 Ashe County Bluegrass and Old Time Fiddlers Convention scheduled for July, and the Ashe County Studio Tour scheduled for August, have both been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

According to the report, Arts Council Executive Director Jeff Fissel said the Arts Council as well as the Fiddlers committee had a tough decision to make and considered all possible scenarios but, in the end, cancelation was the best choice. Fissel said the committee is already making plans for next year's Convention.

As for the Studio Tour, it was felt that asking people to come into various homes and studios around the county was not in the best interest of everyone at this time.

The Ashe Arts Council will continue to evaluate the programs and events schedule and will make announcements about them in the future.
