The 3rd annual Boone Film Festival starts with events this month.

The festival will showcase films with three different thematic categories: adventure, culture and environment. There is also a youth category for filmmakers 17 and under.

This year, there were more than 50 submissions across 15 different states and seven different countries. Of the 50 submissions, 31 were selected to be screened at the festival.

The first event is this Friday, October 12th, with a screening of “Shred America” at Boone Saloon.

On October 30th, there will be a free screening of the film “Hillbilly” from 6 to 8 p.m. at the I.G. Greer Theatre on ASU’s campus.

On November 1st, the best films from the youth category will be screened at the Ross Auditorium at Watauga High School.

The main event and awards ceremony is November 3rd from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Schaefer Center for Performing Arts.
