The Western Youth Network fundraising event, The Festival of Trees, held last weekend at Chetola Resort, was a huge success.

High Country Press reports that the three day event raised more than $30,000 for the organization.

According to the report, Jenny Koehn, chair of the Festival planning committee, said they are still finalizing the numbers, but the money will make a huge impact on youth in need in the High Country.

More than 75 trees and wreaths were displayed and auctioned off during the event with all of the trees donated by the Watauga Country Christmas Tree Association, and decorated by local businesses and individuals, and packaged with gift certificates, merchandise and treats.

The Western Youth Network serves youth in a five county area of the High Country, with programs that include mentoring, after school tutoring and care, prevention programs, and summer day camps.
