May might seem to be a long way off, but it's coming soon. May is Older Americans Month and the perfect time for local seniors to not only be recognized, but to become more familiar with organizations and services available to them around the High Country, as well as to meet and greet their peers and advocates.
The 16th Annual Adult Services Expo will be at Boone Mall on Friday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It's free and open to everyone, and attracts hundreds of individuals and dozens of agencies/organizations each year.
While the Adult Services Expo does highlight a number of services and agencies that serve seniors, it also showcases agencies and programs designed for adults of all ages and abilities.
It's hosted by the Adult Services Coalition of Watauga County — which includes a number of local agencies such as Area Agency on Aging, Department of Social Services and Watauga Country Project on Aging. The Expo is designed to increase awareness about available services by showcasing agencies that provide those services. It also helps to identify needed, but currently unavailable services, and provides networking opportunities among agencies and citizens in the community.
The event also includes the Celebration of Living Awards to honor outstanding individuals in the community.
There will be door prizes throughout the event, and lots of free resources and education provided at each booth.
