Cove Creek School has qualified for a grant from NC Green Power as part of its educational solar power generating system.

The school has been involved in fundraising efforts to qualify for the matching funds from NC Green Power and the State Employees Credit Union Foundation. NC GreenPower’s Solar School program awards up to $20,000 in matching funds.

The program also provides a professional development workshop for educators and a web-based system to support learning opportunities for students.

The solar generating system will contribute clean, green renewable energy to the school building as it serves as a state-of-the-art teaching tool.

According to High Country Press, the system will be fully equipped and tied to the grid, and will be put in assistance from Blue Ridge Energy. There will be a groundbreaking and ribbon cutting ceremony next spring that will recognizes supporting donors.
