The Grand Opening for a new community center was held Wednesday in the office building below Boone Drug on Deerfield Road.
The new community center houses the OASIS office, the Children’s Council, and W.A.M.Y. Community Action. Each organization has their own “bay”, but are all connected in the back of the building, and all share an upstairs area.
Those involved believe the new center will be a kind of one-stop area for residents seeking assistance.
Executive Director of the Children’s Council, Jennifer Kearse said the groups actually worked together Wednesday morning. Kearse said a woman came into OASIS and had to go to court, but had no one to care for her children. Kearse explained, “We are provided childcare, so she was able to bring her two kids upstairs with us so she could take care of what she needed to do and then come back and get the kids. It just was this moment where we realized that we are able to help each other and help each others families we serve.”
The new community center also has office space that is available to rent to other businesses.
