|Watauga County Board of Education Discusses Out of County Tuition|

The Watauga County Board of Education discussed out of county tuition at their monthly meeting Thursday evening.
Thursday’s discussion was not open to public comment, although many members of the community were present.
Director of Vocations and Student Services, Marshall Gasperson, suggested different options to the board that ranged from having all out of county students pay a single residency property tax for the county, to a graduated scale of increasing tuition, to grandfathering in current out of county students without a tuition fee.
The board agreed that when they do pass a policy, they should do it gradually.
The board wanted to gather more information before going forward with a concrete plan, although they wanted to make it clear that this issue cannot be put off and should be addressed quickly.
Members of the school board also expressed that the tuition decision will most likely not affect the ’08-’09 school year.
