This past Monday, narcotics detectives from the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office arrested Johnny Calvin Hicks, 24, in a vehicle stop near the intersection of US Hwy 421 and Landfill Road. Hicks’ arrest came about in part to recently activated and narcotics trained K9 Deputy "Moses," who along with his handler and other WCSO Patrol Deputies, were instrumental in the apprehension of Mr. Hicks. During the search, methamphetamine, a meth smoking pipe, spoons with meth residue, and syringes were found.  Hicks was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Hicks is currently awaiting trial on previous charges of Manufacture Methamphetamine, 2 counts of Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Conspiracy to Manufacture Methamphetamine, Possession of Meth Precursors, as well as Maintaining a Dwelling.  These offenses stem from a search warrant that was executed by detectives on January 5, 2012.  Hicks was on bail for these charges, and due to the fact that Hicks was, again, arrested for methamphetamine prior to his court date, the presiding Judge placed Hicks under a $250,000 secured bond, which reflects his previous charges as well as the current charges stemming from the traffic stop. Hicks is currently being held at the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility and is scheduled to appear in District Court on August 20, 2013.
