Suspect Caught After Boone High Speed Chase PDF Print

A high speed chase came from a traffic stop this afternoon with speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour, followed by a rather slow speed ground search.  The incident began as police were told that a wanted suspect was in the area of Faculty Street in a white Chevy Aveo, and spotting that car, it was followed out onto NC 105 and to the Kangaroo on the bypass south-bound.  Making the traffic stop there, officer John Houck identified the driver and informed him that there was a warrant out for Harrassing Phone Calls, and he was ordered from the car.  Instead, the man put the car in drive and was heading down 105 at over 80 when officer Houck caught sight of him again.  The Chevy turned onto White Oak Road, but apparently turned off of the road out of sight of the now growing pursuit, but was found near the end of a dirt road, abandoned—the suspect fleeing into the woods.  With search dogs arriving, the suspect made contact with police by phone and apparently lost in the woods, finally made his way to the waiting entourage of officers.  20-year old Jerome Michael Carlton of Vilas was charged with No Operators License, Exceeding Posted Speed, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Driving, and the felony of Fleeing to Elude Arrest.  Bond for Jerome Michael Carlton was set at $15,000.
